I opened Twelve Stones Counseling because I want to help people change, be restored, and then positively impact others around them. It is an extreme honor to be a counselor and to have a relationship with each person. I’m passionate about counseling because it can be a massive game-changer. There is no such thing as “too far gone,” “damaged goods,” or “incapable.” Counseling gives so much hope in dark places in our lives, and it empowers us to get back on track.
I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC) in the state of Colorado. I graduated from a CACREP-accredited program (meaning it’s the nationwide “gold standard” of counselor education) at Colorado Christian University with a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling. In addition, I have a bachelor’s degree in psychology with a minor in intercultural ministry. I’m also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) by an EMDRIA approved training program. I offer support with anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, life transitions, and more. I also offer faith-based Christian counseling to those who would like to integrate faith.
My therapeutic philosophy is that our effectiveness in session depends on building a good connection full of trust. It’s important that you know that I care, that I “get” you, and that I’m here with you. I like using modalities like REBT, CBT, narrative, and EMDR but ultimately it depends on what style fits you the best. I have included a detailed explanation of these at the bottom of this page if you would like to learn more.
I grew up in the Denver area and I love Colorado. I enjoy spending time with my husband, kids, and dog, and I am a board game nerd. My love language is coffee, and in my free time I’m usually crafting. I’m pretty straightforward and honest.
Please contact me if you have any questions or would like to have a free phone consultation. You can also check out my profile on Psychology Today here. I would love to get to know you!
Therapeutic Approaches
Counseling Tailored to You
At Twelve Stones Counseling, we believe counseling should be individualized to each person’s experiences, needs, and goals. There is no single therapeutic approach that works for everyone.
Taylor Burdick, MA, LPC, draws from several therapeutic approaches to help clients better understand themselves, navigate challenges, and work toward meaningful change.
Just as important as the therapeutic techniques themselves is the relationship between counselor and client. We believe genuine connection, trust, and collaboration create an important foundation for the counseling process.
Cognitive Behavioral therapy (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy focuses on understanding the connections between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. CBT can help individuals recognize unhelpful thinking patterns, develop healthier perspectives, and build practical skills for navigating emotional challenges.
Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT)
Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy explores how beliefs and interpretations influence emotional responses and behaviors. REBT can help individuals identify rigid or unhelpful beliefs and develop more flexible, constructive ways of thinking.
Narrative Therapy
Narrative Therapy recognizes that the stories we tell ourselves about our lives can influence how we see ourselves and our experiences. This approach can help individuals explore personal narratives, recognize their strengths, and develop new perspectives on difficult experiences.
Person-Centered Therapy
Person-Centered Therapy emphasizes empathy, acceptance, authenticity, and the therapeutic relationship. It provides a supportive environment where individuals can feel heard, understood, and empowered to explore their experiences and personal goals.
Trauma-Informed Counseling
Trauma-informed counseling recognizes how difficult and overwhelming experiences can affect emotional well-being, relationships, and daily life. This approach emphasizes safety, trust, collaboration, and respect for each individual’s experiences and pace of healing.
EMDR Therapy
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is another therapeutic approach Taylor has training in. It may be incorporated when clinically appropriate for individuals working through trauma and distressing experiences.
Christian Faith Integration
Integration of faith into counseling can be powerful for some. For those who wish to include faith in counseling, Taylor is happy to incorporate discussions, reflections, scripture, prayer, or other aspects of faith that may be helpful.
Please note that Twelve Stones Counseling and Taylor Burdick are also happy to offer secular counseling and support clients of other religious backgrounds as well.
An Individualized Approach to Counseling
These approaches are not used as a rigid formula. Taylor works collaboratively with each client to understand their needs, preferences, and goals and determine which therapeutic strategies may be most helpful.
You deserve a counseling experience where you feel comfortable, respected, and understood.
At Twelve Stones Counseling, our goal is to build a genuine therapeutic relationship that supports meaningful and lasting personal growth.
